A reablement approach to aged care massage, with measurement — not guesswork.

Clinic-based aged care massage on the Gold Coast, delivered with a wellness and reablement approach — remedial massage for seniors, including home care package massage, now funded through the Support at Home program. Every session is goal-oriented and combines objective assessment, hands-on treatment, and muscle activation and movement re-education to support independence and capacity — delivered by a dual-qualified Exercise Scientist and Remedial Massage Therapist with 20+ years of clinical experience.

Age changes how the body moves — it shouldn’t change the quality of care you receive. My aged care massage clients come to me with long-standing stiffness, tight shoulders and hips, or general aches that have been dismissed as “just getting older.” My approach reflects the wellness and reablement philosophy underpinning Australian aged care: work alongside each client’s own strengths and goals, not just provide a passive treatment. I observe carefully, measure objectively, and adapt every session to the person on the table — the same approach I use with athletes.

What “reablement” means at Heal Young Massage

Reablement is the model of care underpinning the Support at Home program and Australia’s wider aged care system. It’s a goal-oriented, time-limited approach that works with a client toward a specific outcome they’ve identified — rather than simply performing a task for them.

“Moving from ‘doing for’ a person to ‘doing with’ them — building on the tasks and activities a person can do, rather than focusing on what they can’t do — helping people regain confidence and independence so they can live at home safely.”

Australian Government Department of Health, Disability and Ageing — description of wellness & reablement

In practice, this shapes how I structure care for every aged care client:

A specific, client-led goal

Each block of sessions starts with a functional goal identified together with you (and your care team) — for example, steadier transfers, more confident walking, or easier repositioning in bed — rather than an open-ended “come whenever.”

Time-limited, then reviewed

Progress toward that goal is reviewed across a defined block of sessions, in line with the reablement principle of time-limited, purposeful support rather than indefinite maintenance.

Building capacity, not dependence

Muscle activation and movement re-education are included alongside hands-on treatment, supporting you to do more for yourself over time — consistent with a capacity-building, restorative approach to care.

Falls prevention in mind

Where relevant, objective measures relating to balance and functional mobility are used to help identify factors that may contribute to falls risk, and to track change across sessions.

Reablement Restorative care pathway Falls prevention Capacity building Goal-oriented care

Gentle doesn’t mean passive. I measure, treat, and retrain.

Older bodies deserve more careful assessment, not less. Before hands-on work, I take a full history — including medications, joint replacements, osteoporosis, and any conditions your GP is managing — and observe how you actually move.

As an ESSA Accredited Exercise Scientist, I also use laboratory-grade tools such as VALD ForceDecks force plates to measure balance and strength characteristics objectively. These measurements help guide how firm, how long, and where each session focuses — and give us something concrete to compare over time as part of your reablement goal.

And sessions are active, not just relaxing. Alongside hands-on treatment, I include muscle activation and simple movement re-education matched to your ability — waking up muscles that have gone quiet, and practising the movements that matter day to day: standing from a chair, turning and repositioning in bed, walking steadily, reaching without bracing. The aim is to support you to move with confidence and build lasting capacity, not just to feel looser for an afternoon.

Pressure is always adjusted to you. Remedial massage for a 75-year-old is not a lighter version of a sports session — it’s a different session, planned around your presentation and your goals.

04

Muscle activation & re-education

Guided activation work and simple movement practice matched to your ability — building capacity for the everyday movements you rely on.

Aged care massage discounts that grow with you

Senior age discounts — private sessions

Under my Discounts & Loyalty Programme, senior clients paying privately save on every standard session: 10% off from age 60, 20% from 70, 30% from 80, and 40% from age 90. This includes sessions where a private health fund rebate is claimed (HICAPS on-site) — you’re still paying at the time of your visit, so the discount applies the same as any other private session. Age discounts apply to privately paid sessions only — sessions billed to a third party such as an aged care provider (including Support at Home) are billed at the standard published rate.

Applies to standard, privately paid sessions at the Varsity Lakes clinic; not applicable to urgent after-hours appointments or provider-funded sessions. Full terms and calculators: Discounts & Loyalty Programme.

Home care package massage — delivered through a reablement lens

If you receive aged care funding through the Support at Home program, remedial and aged care massage may be able to be arranged through your provider when it aligns with your assessed care needs and your wellness and reablement goals. If you still think of it as home care package massage, this is that same area of aged care funding — Support at Home replaced the Home Care Packages Program on 1 November 2025. You don’t pay me directly — your provider does, from your care budget. Sessions are held at my Varsity Lakes clinic, and many packages can also assist with transport to appointments.

1

Talk to your care manager

Ask your provider or care partner whether remedial massage fits your support plan, your reablement goals, and your budget.

2

Your provider contacts me

I arrange service details and invoicing directly with your provider — no paperwork for you or your family.

3

Attend at Varsity Lakes

Sessions are clinic-based so you receive the full assessment setup. After each block, I can provide a written progress summary against your goal for your care team.

A documented, reablement-aligned referral option

I work with aged care providers and care managers on the Gold Coast, delivering clinic-based aged care massage as an external allied service structured around wellness and reablement principles. Every client receives a documented health history, a specific goal identified in partnership with the client, objectively measured baselines where appropriate, and a concise written report-back after each treatment block — the same process I use with GPs and allied health referrers.

Sessions are structured around client-led, time-limited goals — supporting capacity building and independence in line with a restorative care pathway, rather than open-ended treatment. Where relevant, falls-prevention-related measures are tracked across a block of sessions to give your team objective data to inform care planning and support plan reviews.

Billing is transparent and auditable: provider-funded sessions are invoiced to the provider at my published standard rates, with no separate provider rate card. Age-based discounts under my Discounts & Loyalty Programme apply to privately paid sessions only and are not applied to provider-funded invoices.

Aged care massage questions

What is “reablement” and does Heal Young Massage use a reablement approach?

Reablement is the person-centred, goal-oriented model of care that underpins Australian aged care, including the Support at Home program — described by the Australian Government as “doing with, not doing for.” Rather than open-ended treatment, sessions are structured around a specific functional goal you identify (such as steadier walking or easier bed mobility), worked toward over a time-limited block of sessions, then reviewed. This is the framework I use with aged care clients, alongside objective measurement where appropriate.

Is this just a gentle relaxation massage for seniors?

No — comfort matters, but sessions are remedial, active, and goal-directed. Alongside hands-on treatment, most sessions include muscle activation work and simple movement re-education matched to your ability, drawing on my training as an Accredited Exercise Scientist. The focus is on building capacity for the movements you use every day — standing up, walking, balance, reaching — so the goal is supporting how you move, not only how you feel on the table.

Can I use my Home Care Package (Support at Home funding) for massage?

Possibly — it depends on your assessed care needs and your provider. Home care package massage is now arranged under the Support at Home program, which replaced the Home Care Packages Program in November 2025, and services must align with your support plan and reablement goals. The simplest path is to ask your care manager whether remedial massage can be arranged under your plan; if so, your provider organises the booking and payment directly with me.

How much do funded sessions cost my package?

Provider-funded aged care massage sessions are billed to your provider at my standard published rates. Age-based discounts under my Discounts & Loyalty Programme apply to privately paid sessions only and aren’t applied to provider-funded invoices. Current session prices are on the Book Online page — your care manager can review these directly with me if needed.

Do you do home visits?

Sessions are clinic-based at Varsity Lakes, because that’s where the assessment equipment and proper treatment setup are. Many funded packages can assist with transport to appointments — ask your care manager. Mobile visits may be available by prior arrangement for clients who genuinely cannot travel; a travel component applies and availability is limited.

I have osteoporosis / a joint replacement / take blood thinners. Can I still come?

In many cases yes, with appropriate modifications — this is exactly why I take a detailed health history first. Pressure, positioning and techniques are adjusted for conditions like osteoporosis, recent surgery and medications that affect the skin or bruising. If anything in your history needs medical clearance first, I’ll let you know and can liaise with your GP.

Is the clinic easy to access?

The clinic is at 21 Meridien Avenue, Varsity Lakes, with parking close to the entrance. If you use a walking aid or have mobility considerations, mention it when booking and I’ll make sure everything is ready before you arrive, including extra time so nothing feels rushed.

Can my son or daughter book for me?

Yes — family members arrange many of my seniors’ appointments. They can book online, call 0431 051 546 (answered around the clock by my automated receptionist, who can book appointments and take messages — I personally review every call), or email hill@healyoungmassage.com.au. You’re also welcome to bring a family member or carer into the session.

Will you communicate with my GP or care team?

Yes, with your consent. I routinely provide short written summaries to GPs, allied health practitioners and care managers describing what was assessed, the goal we’re working toward, what was done, and anything worth monitoring. Coordinated care works better for everyone — especially for older clients with several practitioners involved.
